I've artistic employment again. A good feeling that as it's been a few months of mom-ness. Can't wait to post more about it! I've shelved a few projects and am concentrating on this one, and oil paintings. If schedule goes ok I'll have the pin-up dolls started in August- can't wait! The Lil' Miss is out of school for summer finally! A lot of bike riding, over-watering plants =/ , learning to sew, layout comic books, - and games of every variety have taken up most non-working hours of our days. The Rascal is well on his way to potty-training! Woo hoo! No more soggy bottom boy soon! The Mister is on a killer deadline for the next month and in alternating neutral and fierce moods, so we're just trying to keep each other sane. Yesterday though I painted kiddos and daring adults faces, arms, shoulders and necks for five solid hours at our block party. Quite an experience, and I met some seriously neat people along with one or two I wanted to strangle. Several people took pictures and I'm curious and eager to see 'em! I've never sat around painting faces so printed out free flash art and graphics and used those as the jumping off point. Very cool to see hearts and wings on shoulders, and bluebirds flying across faces, spiders and skulls- one flaming- were the most popular! Did not get tie to paint a pin-up so I'm going to practice that one on myself for next year. I could barely walk around after but they warmed me with rum and good conversation. ^__^ The VERY best part of the whole event was after I had done my time painting the kids came up to me and so politely asked "Rebecca, umm may we umm paint?" "Of course!" was my reply. They listened while I showed them where everything was and what I didn't want destroyed. ;) Four budding artists went to it- they decorated as much skin as possible and some adults snapped pics and were painted as well! At the end of the night I passed out the brushes, paints, and (unused) face crayons, and told them to go home and practice. Lots of hugs and happiness- the kids really made that event for me. The other super spiffy thing is after yapping with all the other folk, we will now have a whole group of women (and some daughters) that are coming over to learn bellydancing! I'm stoked and grateful for all of that good energy.
Today was Father's Day and the Rascal was true to form lol. He hates parental holidays I think. We still managed to have a nice lunch out, and all had a decent time.
