Ok lately ive been to more than a couple car shows. But i am very discouraged to go now. Its because of all the lookie lous. No its not cause of that hot ass sun that makes me go from tanned to purple. No its not cause there are too many people, so many that its impossible not have someone other than the model in my shot. The reason im starting to hate shooting at car shows is because of over the shoulder Pirates. I admit that for a split sec i was one of these over the shoulder pirates but i always showed that it was another photographers shoot by showing to photog in the shot. And all new photogs please do this but dont claim it as your own work. Give the photog credit or say behind the scenes shot or something. Anyways Ill refrain from any names. My most recent experience was at the Ink and Iron. I saw a shot in CKD that was mine. Let me explain, I organized the shoot, I arranged for wardrobe, I choose the location. But this photographer comes from my left side and snapped the shot sent it to the magazine and its in there. You can even see the front of my camera in the shot. I can forgive a guy for something like that but that same dude was shooting over my shoulder recently at this years Blockabilly! I told em but he just laughed. I am no longer a violent person but thankfully my models and my make up girls are extremely cool. And backed up what i said. Well what i really wanna know is am I wrong for being upset. I know my style is my style, theyre shot wont look lilke mine but come on they strap on theyre 3rd grader backpack and show up to reap what i sowed. What do you folks think!?

Sorry bout that bum guy- happens alot, but, still so many people come through
and take momentos of the day you cant be mad or upset at everyone with a cam-
STILL I agree whole heartedly with you about the pic "x"person submitted, thats
crossing the line.

Sometimes you gotta take possession of the shoot and give heads up to what
you're shooting being yours.
Worst comes to worst is copyright infringment-

Heres an example of what happened to me at a show:

We both took pix and both copyrighted our stuff.
I took some shots and "person" stole them and was selling them in his set
I had to take that "person" to court for selling my images and won the battle
from extensive proof. I used film and digital cams that day.
most of the stolen shots were film and 2 digital.
"person" only shot digital.

Sometimes you win and other times its a loss, car show shoots
cant be helped.

The bright side is your techniqe and style prove where you stand,
people who are your fans see through the rest. talent is always recognized
through an ocean of copy cats, just gotta keep your head up.

Best of luck ;)

Sweetie, you have every reason to be annoyed. I would be too! It's kinda like when I come up with a new act and have that ripped off by another performer who doesn't give me credit. I understand completely! I was in a shoot in Vegas like this where a bunch of perverts came around with their point and shoots and were taking shots of me while I was modeling for my photographer. That's just creepy! How do I know where that photo will end up? There is really nothing you can do about it. Its just something you have to expect when going to a car show. Perhaps you can wear a shirt that says " BUG OFF! GET YOUR OWN MODEL" on the back or something? lol

Good luck!

oh hun, you know how I feel about the matter.. I love your work and am so happy we work together.. It sucks to work that hard and have someone take your shoot like that.. I was so annoyed at the blockabilly.. The truck show was awesome.. I guess we have to keep lookin in other places to plan kick ass shoots without the lil yoinkers gettin in the way..

I feel the same as a model. I hate it when creeps "snipe". I didn't say I would shoot with them, I arranged to shoot with someone else, and then they just steal the picture ugggghhhh and probably get a crappy image that makes me look crappy too

I am totally with you on that! It is so incredibly rude. I did a shoot a couple of months ago with 2 other models and 3 photographers. Well, one of the models brought and escort, who also happened to be a photographer and who also happened to bring his camera. Although he wasn't authorized to do so, he was sniping pics all night. When someone confronted him on it, he said that he was just learning and wanted to get a "feel" of shooting. Pssh! Whatever, dude! So, yeah, it's not cool. He took pics of me that day and I still don't know where the ended up. Hmm...

its just disrespectful of the photographer and the model. there should be restrictions or guidelines for that!

I'm with you on this bro, I DO think that its part of the learning process for the most part tho, at car shows there are cuties everywhere, with vendors, solo, with their bf's etc. They pose with cars and people snap shots. Chances are he didnt even know that you did the whole setup that way. I'm not defending him however so dont get me wrong. he completely crossed the line by submitting the shot.
