- A little bit about me - Well as you now know I'm 28 :) I have 3 children and I am a single mummy. When I was 9 months old I was burnt with boiling water from the neck down, I have scars all down my arms, chest and stomach. They took skin grafts from my legs/thighs, this was in 1984 before blood transfusions were screened for blood borne diseases. I had many transfusions because of blood loss, they thought I may have contracted a disease but luckily I did not :)
As a teenager I felt like I didn't belong because I was bigger, so I turned to alcohol to numb the pain. When I was 16 I fell pregnant, it changed my life and I became a mother at the age of 17. I had a second daughter at age 20 to a very violent man, he was pretty bad (story for another day). I felt like I was trapped with him, he told me every day that I was nothing and that I was disgusting. When I had Chloe (my second daughter), I got very sick after my c-section as I had caught a flesh-eating disease called necrotizing fasciitis. I lost two weeks of my life from it, where I have only snippets of memory where it's like a grainy old black and white movie. I was on life support and they told me I wasn't meant to live but I thought 'there is no way I am leaving my daughters behind at the age of 20'. I spent the next 3 months in hospital and then months recovering at home. Now eight years on, I have since had my beautiful son! My tummy is still bigger on one side and I still have the scars to say "hey, this is what happened to me!" But I will not let this beat me or make me feel ugly, it made me realise that life is precious and that it should not be taken for granted and that every moment feeling ugly or not skinny enough is a moment lost! I want all women to embrace who they are and love every inch of themselves! xo Tanya xo
