What creative phrase would you use to describe your style?
I have no style per-say. I just shoot what I know.
Tell us a little about yourself! (details or get declined)
Hello,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My names Dave Jackson (Retro, Air & Track Photography). I am based in the Midlands and I’m currently looking to work with aspiring UK based models to do Retro style photographic shoots for my ongoing ‘Retro, Air & Track’ photographic project.
The project will showcase the UK’s premier collections of vintage civil and military aircraft from the years spanning 1935-1965. These will be combined with models wearing period dress. I’ve many contacts within the UK vintage transport scene through my photographic work in this field over the passed 19 years.
If you model retro styles in the UK and can carry off any of the style types below then I’d be interested in hearing from you.
The style ‘theme’ I‘m striving for is contemporary for the era, with a little tease thrown in.
Styles include; The ‘high society’ look, ball gowns, voluminous dress clinched with wide belt, stiletto heels, hat, sleek long gloves, seamed nylon stockings, liberal make-up with glamorous, elegant polished ‘de rigeur’ look, dark eyeliner and false lashes, bright red lipstick. Think Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe.
The ‘town set’ floral summer frocks, twin set and pearls, tight pencil skirts, nylons, stilettos, hats, fox fur, small handbag, gloves, rouge. Think Audrey Hepburn
The ‘beat girl’ or ‘sweater girl’ look, casual frock, wool sweater, short-sleeved blouse, T-shirt, trousers or Capri pants with wide belt, stiletto heels, deck shoes, head/neck scarf, dark sunglasses and vibrant red lipstick. Think Marilyn Monroe.
Also interested in shooting 1940's preiod styles featuring general everyday and military service.
About my photography
I’ve been photographing vintage aircraft as a serious pastime since 1990. I got access very early on though my associated work in the UK vintage aircraft scene, to a fabulous collection of airworthy aircraft ranging from pre-war types, WWII Fighters and Bombers to post-war types of every description. Adding models in period dress/undress to these collections is a natural progression of my photographic work. I love the forties, fifties and sixties era best, the men and machines and of course the dames! I’m passionate about what I do, and have the greatest respect for the people who carry on the spirit of these years through their work as either retro models, or restorers of classic aeroplanes. My inspiration comes from documentary footage, period publications, and manufacturers of the time.
I have been described as a ‘technical’ photographer as I very rarely take shots of the complete subject, preferring to go for detail, the cropped in shot, or an unusual angle instead.
I am the only retro photographer in the UK and Europe currently shooting models with period airworthy vintage aircraft on a regular basis.
Retro Air & Track is put together as a non commercial venture by myself (It's my main interest, and as such a vehicle for showcasing my work. It's not a business.) So only TF/CD payment in kind will be possible at the present time. As payment, models deciding to do a shoot for this project will receive free of charge a disc of digital images taken during the shoot. All I ask is that you credit me with the image should you use any. What I get from the shoot is the chance to work with exceptional models and, to add to my portfolio.
If you think you might be interested in working with me on ‘Retro Air & Track’ then why not get in touch?
