So there is something I have been running into alot lately, and I am wondering if any of you tattooed ladies can identify.

Do you ever overhear people saying things like the title of the thread? Or what about people saying it directly to you? "You ruined yourself", "Why would you get all those tattoos, you're too pretty"....you catch my drift.

Now I'm not talking about grandma or any older family member, as that can be expected :) I mean other people you encounter in daily life.....customers or clients you encounter at your job, acquaintances at your local bar, or just complete strangers in public at the grocery store.

I have customers at my job say it all the time. "Why would you RUIN yourself like that?"
One girl I work with said it's a "shame" that I got my tattoos cause I could have been a model or been in Playboy. Little does she know I am a model in my own chosen subculture....it's just funny how people assume every girl's dream is to be in Playboy or Maxim.
Then there are the conversations I overhear all the time. Yesterday my hubby and I, a few friends were hanging out at a local joint watching the Kentucky derby. I got up to use the bathroom, and as I was walking by the corner of the bar, I noticed a couple staring at me, and the woman goes to the guy "Yeah, she's pretty, all except for those tattoos. Ugh! Why would she....."
Then at VLV of all places, I overhead two women, as they were pointing to a girl having her picture taken by a car...."Now just LOOK at her. She's doing it right. NO tattoos, so classy....now she's a real beauty"

I don't let the s*** bother me too much, I am not really mad about it, I am more just wondering what everyone else's experiences have been with this sort of stuff....guys feel free to chime in with your opinion please!!!

Yeah! I love that Sailor Jerry scan where did you get it? I want! : P Maybe they could be made into cards that you can keep in your wallet and hand out to those stupid people. Haha!

Anyway as for the stupid comments from stupid people that's all they are..just ignorance so don't pay any attention to it, it's not worth it. Remember karma's a b****. People will always find something to criticize if it's not tattoos, it's your weight or height or whatever. Especially for women this is always the case..we're always being judged by our appearance, it's very unfortunate but true. F*** em..they can go to hell. It's not gonna stop me for getting more tattoos. Close minded, stupid people who can't keep their mouths shut will always exist. Maybe they were NEVER taught the common saying "if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all". Maybe they were born and raised in the gutter who knows?

well obviously i had it all from my family but to be honest they just accept it now....
BUT yes i have comments like " what will you do on your wedding day????" WTF!!!! or "dont you think youve gone a bit far".......or "is there anything left to tattoo?"....errrrrr yep plenty baby and bring it on.....i only have 6 tattoos.......2 are pretty big pieces but i love them......they are the only thing i love about myself!

ive heard people in work looking at my tattoo mags saying " ohhhh she would be stunning if it wasnt for all those tattoos".......i tend to not really talk about tattoos to people who dont get it........its far too draining

heres something ive scanned for you love :0),...........gotta love sailor jerry xxx

I personally think tattoos are a form of art. We're given these bodies to modify how we see fit - hairstyle, makeup, and fingernails are just a starting point! It's not ruining the body, it's decorating it. I only have one small one, but if I had spare $$, I would so have many more! I do think there is a point where it becomes too much, especially if they're on the face. I personally don't find that aesthetically appealing, but I'm certainly not going to talk s*** about that person (not to their face, anyway!).
My grandfather used to ask the same thing when I got my piercings, "what are you going to do when you're a grandma and you have piercings & tattoos?" ....

That same grandpa, 2 years afterward pierced his ears & now has 3 tattoos.

Ahahah, oh the last laugh.

People are always going to have their opinions about tattoos whether they are for or against them. They can think whatever they like about them. Having a complete stranger confront you about them is a little affronting though. It's my body, not theirs, what do they care?!

But at least now I can tell people my tattoos landed me a very good modelling campaign with a very well known, high profile, mainstream company over here in Australia. So all the tattoo naysayers can go and stick it! My dad certainly knows he can't bag them any more because of this. I got the last laugh as well :)
If someone says that, just tell them.."you would be handsome/pretty except for(Fill in the blank).
Make fun of them right back. It's rude and insulting for people to say that to you. Everyone's different and I myself love tattoos and have 2 of them myself.
Exactly!!

Tattoos are art & are such a beautiful compliment to ones soul. I think people who have tattoos are creative & intelligent then most people & have a more colorful outlook on life! Congrats on your modeling, how rewarding, huh?! ;)

As Dr. Seuss once said: “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”

I was lucky enough to grow up with my Gramps and his positive outlook on life (who was fully sleeved by the way)....he always told me, "Don't you ever judge someone because of what they wear or how they look - you don't know what their life is like." Everyone is beautiful in their own way...and they are going to express it in their own way too.

Shake off the people who don't understand it - who are they anyway? :D
That's beautiful, and much more kind than a "right back atcha, B****" type of response. The offending person may not share your love of (insert tattoo subject matter here) but may appreciate your desire to have it become a permanent part of your person IF you can explain your reasoning with eloquence rather than epithets. We all share the same desires, we just show them in different ways.

And then, some people are better just to walk away from. :)

My father was that sort of person. He'd make those sorts of comments to my sister and I, as we were growing up, about people. We weren't even allowed to draw on ourselves with a pen or marker for fun. But no matter what negative, nasty thing he'd say, I always loved the look and wanted tattoos of my own. Guess it serves him right for his attitude- both his lovely daughters are tattooed! At first he'd say things that made me feel like I HAD maybe ruined my skin. But since he has to see them every day now- he's been keeping his mouth shut realizing that I'm still the same girl he's always known and a little skin art hasnt turned me into a degenerate, which I think has changed the way he sees other people with tattoos now.

And as far as other people go- I have no desire to impress or befriend people that don't like tattooed women and prefer they avoid me anyhow because whether they even see my tattoos or not I'm sure some aspect of my personality will eventualy be found offensive. There is no pleasing the critics- they'd have nothing to do after that.
