Why do people think women can only be big or extremely small?!?

I've been talking about this on a few other sites and pages and I thought I would bring it up here. Not to sound like agrouch , but I get annoyed when people call me full figured, plump, etc. Seriously? I'm a size 4. How am I "proving that you don't have to be skinny to be beautiful"? All my photos on various sites have comments like that and although it seems to be meant as a compliment, I'm like dude, I'm not an Olsen twin, but I'm not a big girl either...What's wrong with just being in between? There are so many beautiful ladies that are ACTUALLY full figured, I'm not sure how I made it into that category. It seems as out of nowhere as when people try to say that I'm tiny. I'm not. I'm an average height, average weight, average BMI, average body fat...

I love full figured beauties, but I am not one. Just like I love skinny girls, but I am not one of those either. It's just so obnoxious that people want to put everyone in one extreme or the other. I'm not trying to whine, offend, or fish for compliments, but I can't help but wonder: does any one else notice this? Everyone on this site has put themselves 'out there' in terms of photographs of our bodies, have you received strange or similar reactions and comments? Maybe these people just don't know anything about photography or about women for that matter.

HAHA!  Maybe they meant it like, you don't have to be ULTRA SUPER skinny to be accepted in the modeling world?? Idk. Who know's what people think anymore.

Nice barbie picture. haha

LOL I guess so! It's so weird to me!
I've had a few people comment that they love seeing a "normal" body in a photo upon seeing your pics. I'd say you're more bangin then normal but I do know what they mean. Would you say that's better than being one extreme or another?
I'm not talking about my body exactly though. I'm fine with how I look I'm just wondering how we as a society have gotten to the point where if a woman is not anorexic thin, then she is considered full figured or plus size. WTF is that about???
that's weird.  i dunno, i think people just don't have anything nice to say.  so instead of just leaving it be, they make odd comments.
i think plus-size is being used incorrectly nowadays.  i would consider myself to be full-figured and plus sized.  i'm beyond curvy!  but some people are referring to plus-sized as a size 10 or 12.

Aw, I get what you are saying. Yeah, I don't know why it has to be one or the other, or why someone can't just say, "hey you look great!" or "hey! that's sexy and I love your body" lol.  In general I think it's stinky to be put into a category like to a certain degree. Because it's not the size of someone that makes a photograph or what have you, but the person.
Exactly! I know I phrased it kind of weird...It's really strange to me because it's men saying these things not other women. I guess they are only looking at my chest haha

I TOTALLY AGREE AND UNDERSTAND YOU!

I'm a size 7, have curves, and don't think of

myself as a plus -sized woman; in fact, I feel like

my body is very well proportioned. I know I'm not "skinny"

but i'm not "plus-sized" either...it does bother me to an extent when

people refer to me as "a little over average"

:s

Haha I can't wait until people get over the Kate Moss look. I was always super skinny growing up and I'm so much happier with how I look now. It's weird to see how people want to look the way I did when I was incredibly insecure with my body.
I can't wait either. lol

This is hilarious!

You're not average size.  Not by a long shot.

Supposedly you're a size 4.  The average size of a woman in the United States is 14.

Thus, you're closer to the model reference size of 2, save for your height (5'4" versus 5'7").
