Where do you buy your clothes for shoots an what not?

Hey everybody

Ive been wondering where do you shop for cute vintage clothing when your on a budget? I currently live in Van Nuys, Ca an I dont do internet shopping because I like to try it on an see if its worth the buy.

If you are on a SHOE STRING BUDGET and really want to save, then your ultimate option is Thriftstores. You must find a good amount to visit so that, just incase you don't find much in one store, then there's always a fallback.
I usually find when I plan on going into 5 thriftstores, that it results in me finding a few items. It's superfun and you always come across something very pretty. Have an open mind too when shopping here, because, something that may not look vintage/retro/pinup at first, can look that way with a few changes/alterations. I'm with Aubrey. Thrift stores really are you better bet when shopping on a budget. I'm rather crafty with a sewing machine, so I often alter dresses and skirts that I find in thrift shops.
If at first something doesn't seem like a real gem, accessories really work wonders in bringing out the beauty in any garment. A thick waist belt, for example. =0]

Oh yes Thrift stores are a must! I am a seamstress so I can get really creative with the stuff I buy, do you have a sewing machine? because I can show you some videos on how to quickly and easily alter your clothes

my wife finds a lot of vintage accessories and other wardrobe pieces there for our shoots.
You never know what you might find on Ebay either, just need to have an idea of what you're looking for and some patience :-)

Etsy.com is wonderful too! I have a jewelry line that I sell on there, etsy.com/shop/theplaidfoxx. I can recommend some great shops, but they can be expensive since alot of it is handmade.

I'm more of a consumer than a seamstress; is it hard to learn to the basics of alteration for shoots?

i know ou dont want to internet shop
but there are some store that will cater to you like they would if you were in the store
actually talk to you through yuor purchase

if its still not for you try looking for your closest vintage thrift store, many owners have no idea the gems they are carrying and sell them for way under there value.
i know people who go every day looking for the perfect vintage peices
