I can't afford Mac myself, so I've taken a liking to drugstore brands that are really great!

My go-to method is to take Revlon Colorstay Lip-Liner in Red and fill in my whole lips with it. It gives the perfect matte quality, and it's a nice solid RED without any hints of pink or mauve or anything, which is my goal. It's also great because it transfers less than most lipsticks, and stays all day!

Sometimes if I want a tiny bit more silky sheen to my lips, I'll top it with Revlon ColorStay Soft & Smooth Lipstick in Red Velvet. Although if I were to kiss someone or drink from a glass, it would probably leave a mark, my lips still look great all day long!
For my red, I wear Sephora matte lipstick. I think it's called Chic.
red lips
I also really like AVON's long-wearing lip color in Rosy Resistance. It's like paint that you let dry on your lips and it's matte, then you put on the glossy top coat. You just re-apply the gloss a couple of times a day and the stuff lasts all day and overnight!
i used to wear a dior color. now i wear either boujois sweet kiss, or illamasqua in box. illamasqua is better, but at £18 plus a trip to central london its a lil expensive :( (boujois its £7.99)
I feel your pain! Whenever I want MAC or Illamasqua or any brand like that I have to journey to London, and that costs me at least £40 :(

On the other hand, conviniently all my universities have a MAC store very close by :P In the case of Cardiff, it's a 20 minute walk from my halls haha!

I've heard of people ordering MAC and other pricey brands of lipstick on ebay for a fraction of the cost! Going into the store is good if you are trying a new color, but if you already know exactly what you want, why go anywhere? Order it online! Even if not from ebay, I'm sure either the brand's web site or a beauty supply web site has them available for purchase online. Shipping costs may add to the price, especially if you end up having to ship internationally, but it still might be less than the whole trip into London!
Its only like £4 for an all day thing on the oyster card for buses. but then i find i spend the whole day there, then i have to buy dinner and maybe a tea break. plus its like 2hrs on the but there, 2hrs back, i wanna spend more than ten min at the damn place lol.
im jus gonna go to the one in newcastle, as im going home in a week and ill be in town anyways :)

if your ever that desperate for the illamasqua lipstick, jus gimme a shout ;) im sure we can work somethin out!

I have MAC's Ruby Woo, MAC's Charred Red (a dark red that I LOVE), and Bare Escentuals Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Stick in Barcelona, which is one of the longest lasting lipsticks I've ever tried.
you can find some good drugstore reds too...I love Rimmel London's Brittish Red, Maybeline's Are You Red-y, and Maybeline's Red Revival, and Hard Candy's Kitten! Great prices and they last!
Be careful buying MAC on ebay if authentic MAC is really what you want. Google "MAC Cosmetics on ebay" and you'll see what I mean. LOTS of fake MAC on ebay. I don't have a problem buying cheaper cosmetics, but I do have a problem with giving my $$ to someone who is trying to pull a fast one on me and others. I'd rather have a seller be honest and tell me it's fake MAC than plaster their listing with "authenticity" when in reality it is not.
I'm not a big fan of Mary Kay but I discovered their red lipstick and I love it! Also a bonus you don't have to sit there and figure out which red is for you, there's only one red. Hallelujah :) I use the matching lip liner for all day stay. Another favorite is a stain. Benefit cosmetics has one for $28. It's a bit much but you can use it on your cheeks as well. After staining the lips you can swipe on a chapstick or lip gloss. I apply vitamin e stick over my stain for soft lips. The best part of a stain is that it's all day and you can refresh it by reapplying the chapstick or gloss. I don't know if you like clinique (I just gushed about it on another post) but several times a year they offer a clinique bonus. After you spend $21.50 on any clinique item(s) they give you a goodie bag of new products and usually include a lipstick. I have so many clinique lipsticks this way that I've never had to buy a full size stick. My clinique lipsticks aren't red though mostly pinks and nudes but still lovely :)
Lately I've been wearing "Retro Red" by NYC but another color that I love is "Royal Red" my Maybelline but, everytime I look for that color it's always sold out.
I will most definitely be seeking out Royal Red and Retro Red the next time I head to the store!!
