Waist cincher: Yay or Nay?

I am in need of a great body shaper. I am contemplating purchasing a waist cincher, I have never used one before so I'm curious if it will be good for me. I have a bit of extra cushion and I'm not only looking to emphasize my shape but something to smooth me out and suck me in. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated!

Cinchers are more for emphasizing your shape. Personally I love them, they give you a Marilyn Monroe curve. If you're looking for more of a smoothing quality a girdle would work better. I have this one:

Thanks for the websites, any recommendation helps! I have an event on NYE and I want to be slimmed and smoothed. There is so much out there to pick from, its overwhelming lol.
