Using a stage name

does anyone know if you have to register a stage name in order to legally use it as an alias? i've picked out my pin-up modeling name and would like to begin using it.

If you want to use it legally I believe you have to change your name legally. If you just want to use it as your stage name, just go for it. However, If people are going to be writing you checks, that would have to be in your real name. Before you choose your name though, be sure you Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc it.  You don't want to start using someone else's name, it's rude, and if they have trademarked it you'll have to change yours, and then let everyone you have worked with know about the change and why. Talk about embarrassing. The national Roller Derby league makes all of their girls register their names so that no two girls can have the same, I wish the pin up and Burlesque scenes did the same.
