"We Are The New Vintage"
My dad had 11 classic mustangs at one point in his life. Mustangs have always been something pops and I bonded over. We shared the love for that iconic vehicle. When I turned 14 my dad handed me a set of keys and a piece of paper with an address. He said goto the back yard and look under the cover. There it was, the car I had what I consider to be my first memory in, "the green one". I would sit and play as a baby in that car, messing with the wheel...lucky for me during the most recent restoration I was able to share this special moment with Anthony, my own son...dad was visiting too and we all got to share it.
I was a freshman, everyone laughed as I rolled it into the auto shop sitting on a milk crate. I restored it in school, skipping tons of classes to stay in Auto Shop and by my Sophmore year everyone wanted to roll to lunch in it, go figure! In the beginning it was a daily driver, I had 2 other projects in between, a mustang named "S1L1C0N" & a BMW named "PYRITE". 18 years later I'm driving the same car.and it has once again become a daily driver under the name "KRYPTONITE", inspired again by the paint color. When relocating to SF, the choice between bringing the BMW or the Mustang was easy. The BMW was sold and the mustang jumped on a trailer for the haul. Lots has changed since then...
This weekend I traded in the Mustang for a vehicle that better fits my current needs. I missed a quick & nimble car, SF parking sucks so I wanted something small, the mustang had no trunk space and could barely fit Anthony's stroller so I wanted trunk space. After reading Asia's story about all the facial reconstructive surgeries she needs, my visions of a bad accident in the stang increased and I knew I was being selfish driving it daily. For my family, I needed safety and I knew exactly what I wanted to get!
It was hard to say goodbye to a car I always said I'd die and be buried in, I suppose deep inside I really didn't want that to be the truth. The stang wiped my bank account thru 3 complete restorations and I loved it every single time. But I feel today, that I made the right decision. I wanted to cry as I left the lot, seeing the stang with dealer writing on the windshield, but I'm very happy so I know I did the right thing. Dad is all the way in Bolivia now, retired. But thanks to his gift to me many years ago, my new decision is possible with ease. Thanks Dad!
I present the new ride. A 2010 Honda Fit, a true party on 4 wheels!
PS: I also got my eyes checked for the first time ever last week, today I wear glasses. ;-P
PSS: A super special thanks to Seanny Ice who is sure to post here soon. Without Sean this most recent restoration would not have been possible. Because well you don't want me holding torches and i'm not tiny enough to fold myself under the dash or hood like he was ;)
Here's to a good new home, on someones trailer like the bimmer please!

cool new ride! i see what you're saying as far as safety goes for sure. but there wasn't a way to keep both? one for your fun toy and the car as your grown up daddy car? i guess i can just relate to having a vehicle that you never want to give up, i still have my toys, and then i have my honda rice rocket as my daily also lol
I look forward to hooking up the fit, on day 1 it went in for Tint, next a drop, wheels, then smoked LED tail lights, HID projector headlights and debadging to keep it super clean. I believe a car needs to be customized and personalized in such a fashion that people would ask which "package" that was. They should see the craftsmanship and design and think it had to have come from the dealer that way.

Good on you for thinking of your family. We'll all miss Kryptonite, but she served her purpose and went out for a noble cause. Welcome to the family of glass wearers btw. The Fit suits you.
