So, I've been offered a shoot with a local company. They would like to know my rates.. Problem is, I dont have any. I've started modeling fairly recently and have no idea what the going rate is for a shoot. I was an actress for many years and it was easy to negotiate because as a member of S.A.G it was all set in stone.

any ideas ladies? or photographers?

anybody?
Here in Denver, the local agencies charge about $1250 for a full day's work from a professional model. A model you may recognize can fetch $2500/day. I don't know how much of a cut the agency takes, and how much the model is left with, but I hope this may be a good starting point for you to work from.

And congratulations!

Thanks ma'am. It is something to start with. I am super excited!

Your rate is based entirely upon what the client is willing to pay.

Generally major magazines, like Vogue, will not pay a model to be in an editorial. Why? Because the model get to be in the magazine. They will also not pay for your expenses, like travelling or lodging. So if you're in NYC and want to do an editorial shoot in Paris with French Vogue, the plane ticket is on your dime. Some magazines, especially bridal magazines, will pay the models a small fee of less than $1000.

Catalogue work is very lucrative. A major client like Neimans or Bloomingdales will pay around $10,000 a day, for shoots as long as 5 days. They will also pay for your expenses. An major ad campaign will pay a comparable amount. Along with the fee, catalogues or ad campaigns will also pay you for usage of your image. Which depending on media placement can add up quickly. But catalogue work isn't an everyday thing. And there's alot of models competing for those assignments.

Fashion shows will pay between a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars per show. And during show season, a model can make a nice sum of money. But remember designers are notoriously cheap and some will try to only give you clothes and shoes. Even if they pay, they will not cover your expenses. So that flight to Milan, Paris or London is paid by you.

If you are being represented by an agency, a portion will go to the agency. 20% in NYC to 70% in Paris(because of French tax laws). And you don't get paid until the agency gets paid, which could be as much as several months.

Most working models, like working actors, aren't getting rich. Like acting, only a very few make a really outstanding amount of money.
