Short Retro Hair

So I got lazy and cut my hair on the shorter side recently.  Its quit textured and falls just below my chin line.  Any suggestions for what look would be best for this and/or any techniques to really perfect that retro short hair look?  Its long enough to pin up but not tie up.  Haven't tried the victory rolls but I feel the length will not properly balance them out.
