Saluting Etiquette

I don't think this discussion has taken place before, but it needs to be done. When still photographs are taken of a flag salute, it should be done properly to show honor and respect to our soldiers. When you salute, it should be with your right arm. Your arm should be horizontal to the ground and your wrist/ hand should be absolutely straight. The right index finger should be touching the eyebrow.
Now, at an event where the flag is passing you, unless you are a serviceman or woman in or out of uniform, you do not salute the flag. When you are purely a civilian, you place your right hand over your heart.
This way when you are trying to show respect and love for your country, you don't unintentionally disrespect it. :)

I'm all for ladies saluting in whatever way makes them feel patriotic in their photos, as long as the flag is used respectfully. My kids routinely salute gate guards, flags, random men and women in uniform...and no one has been offended (quite the opposite)
