Just wondering if there are any other retired punks here?
I got into this whole pin up, rockabilly, psychobilly thing via punk. One thing leads to another..at least for me because I have a short attention span and like discovering new music and styles, etc. This is thanks to the scene in Vancouver which is a lot more interesting and fun then Toronto. So any other semi-retired punks?

Yes I happen to be a semi retired punker, played quite alot in the 80s thu the 90s. Had some wonderful times back then, got to play with some bands that hit it big. Retired back in 1999, seven years but my passion for performing kept eating at me so i came back in 06, just a part of me that wont go away i guess. punkin punkin!
I don't think the old punks ever really quit being punk - we just find other ways to do it;). Back in 78-79 I was just another awkward nerd, then I heard the Clash, Blondie and Elvis Costello, and a bunch of other bands, and I felt like I'd come home.

Yes on the short attention span! I didn't really 'get' the 10 minute solos or stoner rock, and I didn't appreciate the cheese factor in disco until much later, so songs that lasted 2 or 3 minutes were perfect. I think rockabilly, psychobilly, industrial, the Celtic folk/punk are a natural progression. A lot of punks I knew back in the day were into jazz, which I'm getting into now.

So Vancouver has a good scene? I would love to see more of that city someday other than the airport - same with Toronto! I love Canada the times I have been there - now I have another excuse to come up there.
Yeah it's funny as I've gotten older I've gotten into stuff like jazz and blues.I've actually sent in fancy little bars sipping martinis listening to jazz..I NEVER would've imagined doing that at 16..it's nice to try new things as long as it's not pretentious and boring like indie rock. : P
I recommend you go to Vancouver NOT Toronto. Toronto's just full of boring hipster indie rock b*******.

I'm retired from the vegan straightedge hardcore scene of the early-mid 90's haha!

I saw Yesterday you were listening to GBH! OH I luved them! When i was younger used to go to all the crazy shows..And was totally obsessed with Sid and Nancy!
Ahh The memories LOL!
Yup! Gotta love the old school punk..especially G.B.H but right now I'm listening to some ska and reggae. I like to mix it up. The Montreal scene is still good isn't it? I gotta run off to Quebec sometime soon..

Oh I kinda was the opposite. I hung out with the drunk punks..but I was "straight edge" every few months in between. I could never do the hard partying 24/7 all year. Never smoked tabacco I'm glad for that!

It's funny, the US seems to be the only country in the world where Rockabilly is the punk/skin retirement plan...

In Europe, people get into the Rockabilly scene and music at a young age and are into it for life. Here, it seems most are punks when they are teenagers, and get into rockabilly as they get older. I actually have a few friends that are younger than me, (they are 28-33 and I am 42) who got into Rockabilly when they were 17-18. They are still into it.

I still go to occasional punk shows.
Actually I live in Canada so the U.S is NOT the only place where rockabilly is the punk/skin retirement plan..In Canada it's even more like that because the rockabilly scene is too f****** small to get into that exclusively..it can't really be done. You'll be bored outta your skull waiting for a decent show to go to.

I know someone from Montreal who was always a greaser, never a punk ;-) I have always heard there is a good scene in Montreal.

I meant "North America" when I said the "US" I was comparing North America to Europe.

One other thing...because there was not really a rockabilly "scene" in California until the late 80s, anyone my age in the scene (with the exception of a few guys I know that started a rockabilly band in 82) almost everyone I know, my age, were all punks or skins before they were rockabilly.
some of them were mods, too
