Red Lipstick On Women-Classy or Trashy?

Have any of you vintage-loving chicas ever noticed that men don't like when you wear red lipstick? Let's go back a few decades and see how every woman wore red lipstick and their men loved it! What happened to the men of today? Did something switch in their genetic makeup that made them vomit internally with each glance at a cherry red lip? I have read that these are the reasons men think red lipstick is grotty.

1. It's trashy-women who wear it are loose (a.k.a "women of the night").
2. It's unnatural. Who has naturally red lips anyway?
3. It's overdone-take off that makeup, woman!

Not only are these accusations false, they are just totally opposite of what men thought back in the day. Here's what I know about red lipstick.

1. It's classy. A red lip never goes out of style.
2. It's enhancing the red and pink in our lips.
3. It's glamorous and all women want to be glamorous.

As retro women of the modern times, do we toss our bright lipsticks and go "au natural" for our men? Or do we stand up for the rights of fabulous vintage-loving women and rock that red lipstick? The choice is yours...

I personally think it looks classic, gorgeous and very glamorous.

Duh! Men today are just brainwashed by media girls with lips dripping in sheer gloss, and not seeing red lips around enough!

One thing's for sure, there are lot more shades of pink, mauve, and darker colors that look WAY trashier than a timeless red!

I'll add that you have to wear it well though... depending on clothing you pair it with, what the rest of the makeup on your face looks like, the attitude you carry it with, and the precise shade/hue of the red, it can certainly go whore-y''. But you can say that about any shade.

i can't speak for other men, but i know for a fact that my hubby loves my red lips. makes him think of a luscious piece of fruit that he can't wait to take a bite out of, LOL. honestly, that's what he thinks. anytime i put my ruby red lips on, he goes crazy, he loves me either way though really.

I love my red lips. I agree it has to be worn well- the right shade, the right clothes and the right attitude. I think it's very classy and chic. I haven't had a guy complain yet. ;)

I agree about complimenting lipstick well with others, but the only down side to wearing lipstick like this is you can't kiss your man!! It gets all over him and it sucks to not be close to him, and I'm with my man all the time! haha

Red lipstick is a staple in a womans hotness arsenal. If you dont want to be hot don't wear it. ;P But don't take my word for it!

I think it depends on what the people are wearing the red lipstick with. Like the women before me has said its classy and timeless. But men also, think its for women of the night because some women will wear red lipstick with mini skirts, and barely there tops. So maybe that is why some men think of women of the night.

I hate gloss! It's too sticky and slimy, and what kinda guy really wants to kiss a pair of lips he'll slide right off of?

In my opinion the most trashy lip colour is bright pink - especially if it is a gloss ¬_¬

I also never understand it when women say:
a) "You're so brave for wearing red lipstick!"
- Why? It's not that courageous to wear red lips, is it? What's scary about that?
b) "I can't pull of red lips"
- Everyone can pull of red lips! Red is not one colour, there is a whole spectrum of
reds to discover! There's definitely one for everyone woman on this planet.

I really like this topic because I've seen it with alot of men, (the unsatisfaction with red lipstick). Unfortunately, it seems that many guys have seen all the commercials with hot girls wearing more natural colors with extreme gloss that makes their lips so appealing. My man, however loves red lipstick on me and thinks it's one of my best colors on me.
I will say this, you just can't wear red lipstick with everything. If you do, then it depends on how you are presenting yourself, outfit, etc. etc.. Red lipstick will always have a place in my heart and on my lips because there is truly no other way to be GLAMOROUS then when you have it on.
