Photographers - I need some equipment advice.

I'm a clothing manufacturer, and I need to do product shots on a fairly regular basis, usually very basic setups against a white backdrop, on a model, to showcase the clothing for retail purposes. My old camera wonked out on me, so now I'm looking to upgrade. However - I'm not a photographer! The equipment forums and sites where I've been doing research on cameras just leave me feeling exhausted, without helping me find what I need. Because there are so many great photographers hanging out here, I thought it couldn't hurt to ask if anyone has any suggestions. So far I've been told that I'd do alright with a Canon 20D, with gently used models selling within my budget.

I have a budget of about $400, and I'd like something versatile enough to do my basic studio product work as well as more intricate setups if needed. I'd like something on the "pro-sumer" end, definitely not a point and shoot - again, I'd like to find a used/refurbished model if at all possible, new stuff is out of my range right now. Again, my main interest is just getting some advice on the right camera for the job. I'm also interested in picking up some more lighting equipment, so if anyone needs to offload some stuff, let me know.

I'm excited to hear any advice on cameras you all may have, this has been a big struggle for me over the past few months as I really want to spend my money wisely but haven't been able to get much solid advice.
