I'm getting ready to go on a trip, and have been looking at luggage. I haven't been able to find any luggage that I'm in love with. If I wind up getting a suitcase to paint it'll probably be one of the cloth suitcases and paint it with acrylics. I was wondering has anyone painted their luggage before so it's easier to spot? Is it something worth doing or would it just be ruined from one flight?

I used to hand paint luggage! I used acrylic and then bought a finishing varnish spray (you can get at craft stores) to set the design and keep it from scratching off. I even used to get old luggage from the Goodwill and paint matching make-up carriers. I found there is almost always luggage at the Goodwill or Salvation Army. Plus, if you don't like the color of the luggage you get you can always spray paint it anything you want :)
I love it when I can find old luggage at the thrift store; but I never thought about spray painting it a different color. Thank you so much for the tips! ^.~

I used to paint my school 'cases (we weren't allowed to use backpacks etc.) with acrylics and seal them with spray varnish/sealant. Those 'cases went through a LOT of abuse, and the 'case always broke before the art was damaged! There was Salome by Beardsley, and Faust by Clarke, and Edward Scissorhands... Damn, why didn't I take pictures? The follies of youth.
I've never heard of scenic paint before. I'll check it out. Thanks for letting me know about, I love working with new mediums. ^.^

YOU CAN ALSO USE SCENIC PAINT. YOU CAN GET IT AT ROSE BRAND. THEY SELL TEST KITS WHICH INCLUDE ALL THE COLOS IN EACH CATEGORY. THEY ARE INEXPENSIVE AND GO A LONG WAY. ROSEBRAND.COM. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THEM LET ME KNOW. RICHIE. BY THE WAY THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA.
I was worried about how durable it may be. Airline luggage goes through the ringer and i didn't want put several days worth of work into a picture if it'll just get damaged in 8 hours. I know how you feel, I've done several murals that I could have used the pictures in my portfolio, but I never took pictures of the work. ;3; Live and learn I guess. I try to take pictures of all my work now, sometimes even pics of the work as it progresses.

Enamel paints are the best , add hardeners to them.
It gets expensive try to find a pinstriper for some tips ...
The baggage handling system would be my biggest concern. I've never tried to paint my luggage, but my HOLY BRIGHT FRIGGIN' ORANGE suitcase came out of its first trip looking like it came by way of a swamp. Maybe that was just the airline's way of saying YOUR SUITCASE, IT HURTS OUR EYES. :)

Have you tried Winners? They have lots of cute suitcases..leopard print, zebra and stuff by Eddie Hardy and Betsey Johnson and pretty cheap prices too. I got a big leopard print suitcase for 60 bucks there.
Is it a store? I'd love to have a zebra print suitcase. =D I'll check online and see if there's a location out by me. =)

I think the USA equivalent of Winners is TJ MAXX.
Out west we never get good stuff like Betsey Johnson luggage!

i didn't paint mine, but I did take a silver sharpie marker to a black carryon bag and draw lots of girls on it. If you check my page, the background image is t he kind of stuff I drew on it, of course in only one color.
get something smooth, paint it black, and get a car pinsriper to stipe it up!!! i collect during the winter, and in the summer we go to shows with our striper friend, and i get him to do suit cases, purses, and my shoes!!
