I am just learning all the things needed for my new pinup look and I am having trouble with lipstick colors. I have fair skin and brown hair and the red lipstick just does not go. I keep buying lipsticks and each one is not a match.

Does anyone have any color suggestions that I can try? Or any helpful hints to find a great color?

Thank you!!

hi mindi!

i recommend the lipsense blu-red or cranberry for your type. i am a light skin type too and have normaly dark brown hair, but now they are blood red since 2 years. i love how it looks on me because it has a blue hint in it so it dont look orangy. and the best is: they last the whole day!! i got these two shades for my wedding day and i only had to reapply it once after our dinner. it dont try your lips out, i have sensible skin and the gloss feels light on my lips so i even forget that i wear red lips at all!! :) lipsense has some more red shades, about 10 or so. you can mix that if you want. just google senegence lipsense und you found a LOT of sites and reviews from happy customers and sellers.

Ladies, great tips!

Keep in mind that if you purchase any makeup (including that lip color you're not to sure about) at Walgreens, Target, I think Walmart might also cover this but you can always return it and get your money back.

No questions asked.

Walgreens I have found is great for this! I have tried so much make- up that was not great and had to return or exchange for something else.

Does anyone have any tutorials on the red lip? or eyeliner? I need to practice!! :)

xoxo!

For the last two or so years I've been faithful to Besame's Red Hot Red for my signature red color. Didn't try any of their sample kits before I ordered - the images on their website are pretty true to life. I'm VERY pleased with it - it's smooth, long lasting and efficient due to it's high pigmentation. I also use their lip liners - glides on smooth and last forever. Lovely package it comes in is another bonus. They're not too cheap but worth every penny.

I use brushes for lipstick application - I found it's much better control of the intensity, filling and shaping. I nearly always mix colors - it gives my lips a more 3D look. As for gloss, I use liquid Vitamin E - you can go from subtle gloss to MAC's Lipglass effect and it's all natural ingredients.

Never had problems with lipsticks turning out to be more orange but I'm sure going to take LittlemissOwl's advice - for finding the right foundation that agrees with my skin [and doesn't turn carrot-orange]. As for colors turning out to be a disappointment after purchase - I think the light is partly to blame. Light used in shops is different that actual sunlight. Dab some lipstick onto your wrist and then walk outside for more accurate color assessment.

I don't trust in-store 'beauticians' much - their expert help varies from shop to shop and person to person. Oftentimes they just want to make a sale.
