You wake up in the morning and have to make a trip to the grocery store. You just need a few basics. So, what do you do? You wash and roll your hair. Then you pin it perfectly. The you put on a full face of makeup along with a designer outfit. Don't forget those 5 inch heels! Seriously, is there anyone who doesn't wear this stuff to go grocery shopping?

I mean, just look at Dita...

LOL. Ok, seriously. I love the girl to death, but she gets this done up for the market?! I guess that's why she's Dita and we're not. ;)

It's not just ladies. I get done up to get the mail downstairs. Clothing must be ironed hair must be done etc. Honestly I take longer than desi ( I need lots more work anyways lol). You NEVER know who you will run into. It's the same reason that even to go out in the rain I wash my car. I think it's about knowing u can feel confident when you are confronted with someone u know or meet someone new. Not to mention looking good opens a few doors!.
Ok well I'm not gonna go out lookin' like a slob but I'm sure not gonna always gonna go through that much trouble!
I always have to look presentable, more people notice me then was even aware of.
Question.....
Does Dita have three kids???? Guessing not.

There is no way in HELL I could take the time to get this dressed up for an every day chore like shopping. It's ok though because it makes the few times when I CAN dress up even more fun and special. If the people don't like what I look like on an everyday basis and make a decision to judge me on it then oh F*@&ing, well! I am who I am and part of who I am is a busy, BUSY mom. Sometimes I don't even look in the mirror before I haul ass out of the house. If something important needs to be done, that's my priority... not how I look while I am doing it. I may look like a complete slob sometimes but I know I can look FABULOUS too, and that's all that matters.

If Dita can find the time to do herself up this good for a trip to the market, then more power to her! I say, enjoy it while it lasts! :)
I try to at least look presentable when I go out, unless I'm sick or it's an emergency. But women like the ones SF posted are a great inspiration. I agree with Syd though, once you have kids, it's gets a bit harder to always look your best.

All we can do is try, and look the best we can when we can.

Dita sure looks good though.... I love that dress.
I envy her discipline...While I wouldn't go to that extreme, I often wish I could take it to the level of the average 50s housewife who wore make-up and a housedress to the store.

And I agree with sfpj....men need to step it up! A hat and a shoeshine would be a good start!
I guess she has a certain reputation to live up to and she doesn't want to let the public down. Better her than me cuz I'm not getting that gussied up to buy groceries!
I mean, I just think that there is looking good when you go out and then there is going overboard. I agree with SF, when he said that this outfit at a grocery store screams "look at me!". I think that your outfit can say that without being so obvious about it. In my opinion, a cute polka dot top with a nice skirt and cute wedges would make a similiar impression in a less "flamboyant" (if you will) way. I mean, when you dress up for everything, doesn't that take the bloom off of the rose? And yeah, it does look kind of costumey and (as much as I love Dita) desperate.
most days i am pretty put together befor i leave the house... unless i'm headed to the gym... then i'm all cuted up in my lululemon designer yoga clothes and hair up and no make up! I KNOW!! NO MAKE UP! what!
hah.
Dita is wonderful.
I cant do much with my hair these days (in dire need of a cut and dye...its way to uneven) so i try to make up for it with putting my face on (which isnt too much makeup) and getting all dressed cute.
today, on the other hand, i got ALL dolled up....
to go to an interview at corvette diner :D
hehehe
Here's my two cents:

I too have a hard time leaving the house without looking my best. Part perfectionism, part vanity, part no matter how appealing it sounds to not care what others think, most of us do. I do anyway (to a certain extent).

There is one word to sum up Dita which is calculated. Nothing wrong with that, obviously she's great at it (if limited, doesn't seem to bother her any) and has made a name for herself, great career, etc. based on ambition, laser-like focus and extremely calculated choices.
Hmm..I for one could not live like that...I prefer low maintence. Mainly because I'd rather spend the time practicing my drawing or writing..I don't need to be all made up for that. And it is rather snobby to expect people to be ALWAYS dressed up and made up perfectly. If someone's more comfortable in slacks so be it. I won't wear make up every day because the chemicals in it age your skin premataturely. I'd rather NOT have wrinkles yet so I leave it for the special occassions. Hey it makes it more special that way.
Oh and I lost my make up bag at the Mad Sin show on my birthday.. : ( I'll need to get replacements because I finally got a modeling gig. Isn't it ironic? Me buying make up again...oh wells. : P
