i want to make a pop out cake

I can't rent one in my area and i would rather make it myself anyways.

Well, a few people have suggested using cardboard or wood to make it but I'm still not sure exactly how to go about this.

I'm thinking that a square cake would be easier to make than a round one though.

So, if any of you have made one or have suggestions on how to do so, please let me know!

hahaha about the caps and i would like to be able to use it more than once. It's for a big birthday party/show that I'm doing but I would like to keep it for later performances also.

Oh jeez, its a lot of work. I made one for a party a few years back, took about 40 hours to complete and about $50 of materials. I found a circular piece of wood from a table top and used that as a base. Put casters on it so I could wheel it out on stage. Then built a frame out of wood slats and chicken wire for a two tier cake, then applied paper mache to the chicken wire. You can leave the top open and then cover it with tissue paper to break through and pop out ect. Also, I attached leather straps to the base for the girl to hold onto as the cake is wheeled out on stage. Brakes on the casters are fairly important if you don't want the girl to break a leg or chip a tooth. Oh, have half the cake attached to the base and then the other half just slide on to enclose the girl after she gets in. Actually when I made mine I just left it open in the back because from the vantage point of the stage no one can see the back anyway. Be patient and you can make a really great cake to be used again and again.
