"We Are The New Vintage"
Hey everyone I'm new to the pin up scene...it seems very cool. I would love to be a plus size pin up model. But where do I start exactly and what are the requirements? I will be moving to north dakota in June does anybody happen to know if their are any photographers out there? Also not too sound too stupid (remember I am new to the pin up scene lol) what are pin up girls exactly?

If I had to explain it, pinup is an attitude and a style choice. Pinup girls have been around, well, I'd say since the invention of the camera. Others would say longer, some would say less, but the pinup girl is the one who will challenge convention and give the camera just a bit more skin than a "nice" girl is supposed to, and look you in the eye with a smile while doing it. She is the nice girl with just a promise of naughty fun saved for later.
Most people think of pinup as they were made popular in the second world war-- calenders of girls with big smiles and slightly provocative poses that were "pinned" up in ship's galleys and on the walls of barracks, and folded into pockets and taken on the battle field. Pinup girls gave the boys a reason to fight, and a reason to return home. The pinup genre seems to have died when fashion did, sometime before 1968. Sadly, street fashion took over at that point, and the well-planned outfit that was so important to the pinup look was considered too overdone.
To be a pinup model means what you want it to mean. You learn the look you want, and you create great pictures with a photographer. It is what you make of it. There isn't really much money to be made modeling, much less modeling exclusively pinup, but a few girls do okay. Mostly, it is something to have some fun doing.
Spend some time on the site, read and see if you can find a car show to attend.
I wish you the best.
Welcome to PL. This is the best place to find out about the world of pin up. Spend some time reading this forum; your question has been asked before many times, and you'll find some great answers in here. Also, check out my website, www.roxy-tart.com, the Pin Up 101 section is all about the history, scene and tips about getting started. Good luck, and if you have any questions that don't have threads, feel free to start a new one.
