has anyone ever called you "self consumed" for being a pin up?

Yeash!! It's been one of those days...a day when a real pin up girl just stays cool and calm with a blushing grin on her face! But, deeply...I am a little hurt. A person I know said that because I do pin up modeling, I am "self consumed". When I asked what she meant, she said that I had "no business being a model of any kind, that I am too big to model (I'm a size 12), and that I must care about nothing but myself to keep my hair, body, and makeup looking the way they always do". I felt like she was saying I don't deserve to have what I have. I was truly hurt by her comments. I was wondering if any of you other girls have ever run into people that act like that?? If so, what do you say to those people?

there is nothing wrong with having pride and a little self respect with the way you present yourself, it comes across as jealousy. if your good at something and it makes you happy to heck with what anyone else says!

ive never had friends say things like that before but i have had strangers make similar comments, and it does leave you with a not very nice feeling :(

Thanks Miss Ashlea!! At least now I'm not the only one who heard it as "jealousy"! I just wish people could be happy that I am happy and leave it at that!
Wow, that's horrible! A friend said this to you!?! First of all, there is no size limit to being who you want to be. I've been dipping my toes in the pin up world for about a year now. I am a shy person and a bit weak when it comes to criticism, constructive or not. I do what I do because its fun and I feel great doing it, don't you? I used to care what people say, but I'm slowly realizing that the ones who put down what makes me feel good, don't care how I feel. You're an inspiration to women everywhere! Thank you for being you! :)
WOW! Sounds like the green-eyed monster let loose on you! I've been told I'm too old to be doing any modeling and I'm wasting my time. Well, huh...it is MY time. So, why are YOU worried about it was basically my saucy lil retort! A mentor of mine once told me that I need to find my bliss. I took her advice and I have never been happier. I think some people are simply toxic and unhappy with themselves and instead of looking inward they lash out at those around them. You are beautiful and confident! Not a dang thing wrong with that!
wow! im gonna be blunt on this one. sounds like one jealous b**** who cant handle the fact that you have self confidence! honestly, she doesnt sound worth calling her a friend. and if it were me, i'd tell her to piss off.

sorry you had to have a friend be that way to you. ppl can really be down right nasty. u are gorgeous love and keep rocking on in the pin up modeling!!!!
I'm fairly new to being a pinup. I have had wonderful reactions from 99% of people that have seen my photos and seen me in out and about. I had someone close that I expected to be my best support trash every aspect of my photos, my clothing, my makeup, hair, even expressions. I handle constructive criticism pretty well. When it came from this source seemingly out of no where and with no suggestions of change - just seeming jealousy it was crushing. It's something I believe others can't understand or are jealous of - when either occurs they get ugly. Keep your head up girl! I feel your pain. It hurts. Believe in you - that's who matters the most!
*TEAR!!!* Thank you SOOO much for what you wrote...it's so perfect! I really feel better from reading it!! It was an "associate" not really a friend who said it. I live in a small town, and it's just not normal for anyone from here to "make it" so to speak. So, I think there was some jealousy attached to what she said, but it still hit me hard. I have to remember that I do this because like you said, I enjoy it and it makes me feel good. Thank you thank you for your inspirational words!!! XOXOXOX~Maggie :)

Sounds like someone green with envy. Who is anyone else to say what is right for you to do? Do what makes you happy, and screw the rest of them! I had a girl once say that the only reason I model is to get attention from guys and to have an excuse for how much makeup I wear.... I mean, it stung a bit, but people who can say something so spiteful probably are battling some inner conflict with themselves. People who are insecure project those insecurities on to others, because they take satisfaction in bringing someone else down with them. You keep doing what you do! Pinup gals come in all shapes and sizes, the diversity in all of us is what makes this lifestyle so much fun!

I often remind myself that I learn something from everyone, from some I learn what to do, and from others, I learn what not to do.  Chalk it up to a learning experience -- she is teaching you what not to do.

Anyone who attempts to leave the world a little bit prettier than it was before they made an effort is doing something good.  If you leave the house caring about how you look, thank you.  I like being around people who take care in how they look.

If you find joy in being in front of the camera-- then you make the world a better place by being that much happier.  Go, find a camera and someone who will take pictures and be happy and feel beautiful.  It makes the world happier when more people are happy.

So, pfft.  Double pfft.  Now you know one person who is a grumpy bumpy and who to stay away from.  Forget it and do what you love to do.  You aren't just making yourself happy, you are doing the world a favor by adding one more bit of joy to it.

There are a lot of haters out in this world. For yrs people would look at me like I had ten heads bc I gave them a compliment. I am the kind of person who would rather lift someone up than put them down. Unfortunatly not everyone does the same to me. So I have become my own cheerleader of sorts. I have had some recent things said and done to me too and I try not to take it personal but it does hurt. But I think every woman deserves to do something really nice for themselves esp if its something that makes them feel good and doesnt do harm to anyone else.

Keep your chin up mama. Its important to surround yourself with positive people and people who support and care for you-everyone else needs to see the door :)

I completely understand. I'm from a small and conservative town. Just having tattoos makes you a 'bad' person. It's hard to be myself without feeling like I'm going to offend someone. It's just gotten to the point where I don't care anymore. It still hurts because I do care how other people feel, but if it prevents me from being me in the process then I try not to worry about it. In my town, it doesn't matter if your skinny or plus size...everyone talks negatively about everyone else. It's kind of a 'black h***' here. Those who are positive will always be successful and prevail. Do what you love because down the road, whether tomorrow or next year, they wont remember and will have someone else to pick on.

Oh, and you're very welcome! :D

I hope this girl was not your friend, friends don't say things like that.  To say you have no business modeling is pretty mean! Caring about yourself enough to keep your hair, body....looking good is not wrong in any way, and it doesn't mean that ALL you care about is yourself.  Some people just say things to try to make you feel bad.  Tell her your sorry she feels that way but you love the way you look and love yourself!  I love you, too!!!
