Hair Rollers Help!?

So, I hear rollers for your hair are a nice way to make your locks nice and curly and/or wavy. I was looking at some today, but didn't know whether I should use hot rollers, or just have my hair wrap around plain rollers. I'm afraid the hot rollers would fry my hair. I have thick, wavy hair if that helps any.

I know how to work the hot rollers if it is a right choice, but don't exactly know what to do about the other kind. Do I roll them up when my hair's dry? Damp? Not exactly sure what to do, and not exactly sure what kind to get. So, what do you recommend? Do you use a certain brand, and how do you curl your hair into those gorgeous pin-up styles!? THANK YOU!!

was that after you brushed the curls out? a little pomade, or some silk drops might help, or a spray shine . . .

also, the other day- I saw a hot roller set that rolls the hair pin-curl style: the barrel is short and sticks out from the head so the curl lays like a traditional pin curl while it cools, rather then rods laying perpendicular to the scalp after the hair is rolled up. They have a flexable rubbery outer cover that flips over the roller to hold them in place while they cool. I love the idea of hot roller pin curls since my hair takes forever to dry . . .

Has anyone bought these and tried them out?

I love sponge rollers; they provide a great curl, come in different sizes and, best of all, you can sleep in them! They can be bought in most drug stores and have their own clip attached to them. As Honey said above, set them with damp hair (perhaps with a setting solution for a longer lasting curl) and then seperate them with your fingers, brush them out with a vented brush to create waves, and style with pins and combs after about 4 hours - maybe a little longer as your hair is thick - until they are completely dry. That's what's so good about sponge rollers; you can put them in after your shower at night, wrap your head in a scarf, go to bed and wake up the next day and a voila, the hair is dry and perfectly curled when unrolled!

I had those kinds of curlers back in the late 80s, or early 90s. If I recall, they are better for shorter hair than longer hair. difficult to roll up and not have a kink in your hair.

*points below* She's got the trick to the trade! This solution gives you the most AUTHENTIC 40's as well as 50's look! It's what i do a day prier to a shoot & works like a charm every time!!! You can find setting creams @ Sally's Beauty Supply or a local department store. Be wise not to get a gel based however. You want cream. That way there is less stick! GOOD LUCK! 'Carmalee

Hm, I think part of the problem I ran into was that I didn't clip them close enough to my head and they got twisted around while they were drying. I guess I need more practice :)
