HI Everyone! So I thought I'd share this with all of you. My Mom has sent these to my brother and sister and I'll be sending a few to friends of mine during their deployment. You can send all the extras you want, like candles, sprinkles, decorations, whatever you like. Frosting is best sent in the containers from the store and, if you feel inclined, you can send more than one, so your soldier can share their birthday with their buddies.

I hope you all enjoy this and share it with your soldiers!

Here's what you need.

1 (18.25 ounce) package of your soldiers favorite cake mix
Straight-sided wide-mouth pint canning jars with lids and rings (they have to be the wide-mouth)

Directions:
Prepare the cake according to package instructions.
In pint size jar, put 1 cup of batter in each greased jar. Make sure to keep the rims clean. Put jars on a cookie shhet and put in a preheated oven 350 degrees. Bake for 30-35 Minutes, or until toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean. (My mom said to warm the jars up in the oven before putting the cake mix in them. Just needs to be warmed not hot)

While they are baking, have your lids boiling in a pan of water. When the cake is done, take one jar out at a time and add the hot lid and screw on your rings and let set and cool.

It will seal as it cools. Place the jars om the counter and listen for them to "ping" as they seal. If you miss a "ping", wait until completely cool and press on mthe top of hte lid. If it doesn't move at all, it's sealed.

After it cools it will pull away from the jar and when you are ready to eat, open and pop out the cake and enjoy.

Unsealsed jars should be stored in refrigerator and eaten within two weeks. Sealed jars may be stored in freezer.

Note: Wrap in bubble wrap, and include frosting and sprinkles, then send loving birthday wishes to your soldier.
