Good Eyeshadow base?

I recently splurged on some new eyeshadows that are brighter than I normally wear and I was wondering if any one had some reccomendations for a good eyeshadow base. maybe my skin is too oily, or maybe it's just the So Cal weather but the eyeshadow never stays put and always creases and it's a surefire way to kill a look. Hopefully you're reccomendation isn't too expensive I'm looking for something under the $20 mark. Thanks <3!

i use a wet based multi use stick... you know the eyeshadow/cheeks/lips multi use thick sticks?
i put that on, and a champane color below my brow, and a quick swipe on my lip, and add my power color on my lid... it works great!

I have not tried the Primer Potion but I use M.A.C liquid last liner as a base for glitter. Don't let it dry and make sure you have some really awesome oil based eye make-up remover to get it off.
For day to day I do use the M.A.C paint (in the tube, the pots don't have the same wear).

i used to use that mac paint until i realized that any shadow that has any amount of glitter to it (mac eyeshadow itself even) just falls right off when you use it. it will just not adhere! Primer Potion kicks its butt.

I haven't tried the UD, but I use a MAC paint that comes in a tube. A very sheer layer will keep my shadow on, make the color more brilliant and also keeps my liner dark.

I have the benefit mini kit thingy " big beautiful eyes" and I can vouch that the kit is pretty good for staying put, have a look on the website as I'm not sure how much it is in USD. I am hard to please, I am a trained beauty therapist here in the UK ~ this is a nice little kit and does what it promises!

i think it really depends on your skin type. be sure to choose something that makes sense for you. if you have incredibly dry skin, you want something that will smooth out the surface and give the shadow something to stick to. when your skin is dry, you tend to get a flakey "texture-ey" look on the eye. on this type of skin i normally use a thicker coverage, cream concealer. for oily skin, you want something that will matte out the area. something that will keep your shadow on all day, but keep it from creasing or getting oily. i use MAC paint pots or MAC paints. i also like too faced shadow base. i always put the shadow base all over from lashline to brow, and i always use something significantly lighter than the clients skin tone. to me, if you white out the entire area, the shadow will show up on the skin the same color it shows up in the pot. otherwise, youre allowing your skin color to manipulate the color of the shadow.

I like MAC Paints but it dries really quickly... WHat I do, and this may sound crazy, is, I use a little little tiny bit of chapstick! Yes, chapstick! Just enough to make your lid somewhat tacky NOT GREASY! It works so well, AAANNNND if you get chapstick with vitamin e or aloe, well, hey that couldn't hurt against fighting wrinkles right? lol

I use the Mac paint pots. They come in numerous colors but I use Painterly which is a great base. BUT someone mentioned that it doesnt hold glitter well. If I use an eye shadow with a "frost" look, that doesnt have actual glitter in it then this works fabulous. its under $20 as well.

Whenever I use it my shadow doesn't look as nice..It won't go on like it would without it..Maybe that's just my eyes..

Here are the recommendations over at Carissa's Beauty Blog:

I have a few go-to's in my bag of tricks that are sure to get shadow to stay on for hours (literally, my girls can keep their same makeup for days after a good application).

But first let's talk basics.

When is the last time you washed your brushes? Get a bottle of baby shampoo (just the cheap stuff) and shampoo all of your brushes until the water runs clear when you rinse them out. Gently squeeze the brushes and lay them flat to dry overnight. When you can see the brushes are coated, wash a few of them in the morning right after you use them just to keep them in good shape.

Don't use eye cream or moisturizer on your lids in the morning.

Use a primer first. Give the powder shadows something to stick to with a cream primer. I like Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow, and M.A.C Paint. Only Shadow Insurance is a true primer, but the other two are great to grab on to shadows and hold on to them for a full creaseless day.
