False Eyelashes

I'm new to applying them. I always have a hard time getting them where they need to be. And I'm not even sure where they need to be. Do I glue them to my lid or to my lashes? I hate to sound stupid, but despite googling and youtubing, it's still unclear. Sometimes it looks like they are gluing to lashes, other times lid. All they ever say is, "as close to the lash line as you can." As of now, I get so sick of trying I just let them stick wherever they will, LOL.

Any tips?

It's taken a long time for me to get the hang of falsies! But I've gotten the hang of it, here's what I do:

Apply a light coat of mascara before applying, it's supposed to make the lashes stick better, and it blends your lashes in.

Apply a thin layer of glue, wait a couple seconds for the glue to get tacky. When they say "apply as close to the lash line as possible" what I do is apply it on the skin above your lashes, and while the glue is still pliable, you can press it down into your lashline, it makes it look more natural and help make it stick.

If the strip lashes are still a pain, my secret is to put in individual lashes. They look fantastic and natural, super easy to apply, do your mascara normally, and place the same amount of individuals to each eye with tweezer, almost right on the lashline, starting in the outer corner to give a more "fanned-out" look. I typically do maybe 3 indivduals per eye, it's really easy and looks great.

False eyelashes are one of those things that you just have to keep doing over and over to get the hang of it. I typically use the individual ones, which I always found to be easier, especially when you are just learning. The full sets can be a pain and sometimes you need more that one set of hands if your not used to it. So like I said, just try and do it over and over and eventually, it will become something you dont have to think about. Here are some tips though:

1. After putting the glue on the lashes, wait until its almost dried...at the tacky stage. I usually blow on them for about 10 secs and then apply. Otherwise, they will slide all over.

2. Lay the lashes on top of yours, and then push them up against the lid. Does that make sense? So they are attached to both the lashes and the lid I suppose.

3. Most important, hold the lashes in place for a long time. I will wait for about a minute just to be sure they have dried and wont lift once I let go.

4. Another thing to be aware of is what look you want. If you are wanting more of a sultry eye, make sure the lashes are slanted down more for the Marilyn look.

A good rule to follow when applying lashes is to get them as close to your real lash line as possible. I never glue them to my lashes because when you remove them, it can pull out a few of your real lashes with them. And then you end up HAVING to wear false lashes instead of using them to add volume to your real lashes. Just make sure that they are not high up on your lid. I am planning a tutorial just about applying lashes, next week. ( I did eyeliner this week ) Keep an eye out for it! Good Luck!

I always cut mine at least 2/3 of the size along the strip (not trimming the actual lashes, just making the base strip shorter) , because unless you're using really high quality ones, the bend in the lash strip is way out, as everyone's eyes are different. Try cutting them in half, and once you get the hang of that work up to full-size. I've been wearing fake eyelashes since my teenage years and they are STILL the bane of my existence!!

Morning Doll,
All the girls have really good advise!!!! I will still share how I apply.

Always check to see whether the Lashes are appropriate lengnth for the size of your eye.If not cut them to, i always find the the fuller lashes are longer.

Apply your mascara normally.

Apply a thin amount of glue to the Lash, give it a few seconds to semi dry.

Apply the lash, right above your lash line and right under your lid. So it's right in between.

I find that setting them there makes it look like you are not wearing any especially if they are the less dramatic looking ones. And finally your eyeliner, you will be placing it on your eye instead of the lashes you just put on.

Ive never been able to use falsies. this thread inspired me to get some today, and with all this great advice I managed to apply the lashes perfectly first time
Thanks sweetie. Now I can wear falsies to the cosmo magazine party just gotta remember to take my time lol

I haven't seen that since I left Japan almost 8 years ago!!!! Amazing! It's a really awesome little tool too!

Okay, so here's my advice.....in addition to all the fantastic step by step instructions and advice found in the thread already:

Get lash adhesive that is dark. (the stuff that goes from white to brown when dry) It looks more natural, and you'll be able to see where you might need more glue, etc. Also, it helps with application time, because the glue gets darker as it dries, you can tell when it's "tacky" enough to be applied to your lash line. I always had the problem that the glue wasn't set enough, and then the lashes were sliding all over my lid. (ew!) Good luck sweetie! and remember to take your time!

ooh, awesome tips.

i have a latex allergy so the only stuff i can use is the ardell liquid. any suggestions? it doesnt really get tacky like traditional glue.

Another tip I want to throw in there: Get an eyelash curler and curl your lashes after you've applied the falsies...it helps blend the real ones with the false ones. But make sure those falsies are seated good before you use the curler!
