I was wondering how many kinds of rude/ignorant comments people might have gotten for their style or posing for pinup photography. I have a friend who I pose for as she is building up a portfolio and so am I. She recently got hired at JC Penney's to be a photographer at the portrait studios. I was asked to come in and do a sitting for her training. She asked her boss if her "pinup friend" could come in and do a sitting. Her boss asked her if I would be wearing clothes! Then when I was there with my honey, the lady told me to "pose appropriately" for the shoots by myself. I told her "that's the only way I know how to pose" but she said it twice and then when I had to change into a second outfit she told me to "dress appropriately." Both of my outfits were very modest and I was shocked at the liberties she took with me even though I was still a customer. I don't know what she thinks Pin-Up or Rockabilly is, but it sure wasn't flattering. My friend was embarrassed and my boyfriend was upset. Has anyone else had such a negative encounter?

No. I've never had a negative comment made about it. In fact, some of by biggest "fans" are little old ladies that see me on the street. But I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and there are so many different kinds of people here that a "proper pin up girl" is a nice change from the hipsters and hippys (or so I've been told). However, if anyone did have something nasty to say... I'm sure I could find plenty of nasty things to say about the way they look and/or act. But you know what they say, If you can't say something nice, expect for someone to say something worse back. LOL

Lol that's true Roxy, I've hardly ever heard anything bad. I wasn't really mad about this weird little scenario and I guess the best way to go about it is to just be polite even if they aren't.

I've never had really a negative encounter, but in WV (where I'm originally from) I get a LOT of people that don't "get" my look/style.  I tend to have to explain to them and then sometimes I get picked at for being different.  It's never negative though, it's just ignorance on their parts I think.  Little old ladies and little old men tend to comment on how nice it is to see someone who cares about their appearance though!   We just moved though to Hawaii and I'm hoping to not have to explain the way I live so much! =)

I LOVE your last sentence haha. :) I don't live in Cali (Southern girl born and raised) but I think it's similar here. I always get compliments on my style, mostly from little old ladies... they must be just as sweet on the west coast. I have had someone say that I think too highly of myself and that I needed to go tan or "expose myself to sun before I die" or something like that. I actually spent all summer at the beach (and wore plenty of sunscreen of course), and didn't get a bit darker. I just embrace the pale.
