CALLING ALL SOLDIERS AND SAILORS! What is your opinion of pinup art (specifically THIS picture)? Does it boost morale or is it disrespectful? Is a girl posing on a gun cute and fun, or is it skanky and in poor taste? Post your opinion and if you know someone in the military, ask them!
This was the original comment: Suzana Auping I have actually walked thru a warship where our men and women live and sleep ...... A "Candy Ass" woman... Who lays on a gun with a tight skirt ... Maybe she displays America.... My thought is not. Our miltiary means much more ....

I'm not in the military but I'd like to comment anyway. I think the picture is cute and traditional, I don't know why anyone would find it disrespectful. Isn't this the type of picture that showed our boys oversees "this is what we're fighing for"?
Happy 4th of July
How odd, the outfit I am wearing is an exact copy of a 1942 pattern and is quite modest. The gun is on the Queen Mary and is available for anyone to plant their rear end on! I know countless sailors and none of them have ever had anything bad to say about my work. Sounds like this woman is a little sad.
I am a Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and this picture does nothing less that bring a smile to my face even during the hardest times of deployment. It makes me happy to see that people take advantage of the freedom provided by our military personnel. In no way could I possibly see this as disrespectful or tasteless. What I can say is disrespectful is someone thinking they are entitled to a their grand opinion on patriotism just because they have toured a boat. I have gone weeks underwater without fresh air or feeling the warmth of the sun on my face, I have spent years away from my family, and I have sacrificed far more in one year than a normal American citizen could in their entire life. I would hope that my opinion on patriotism speaks louder and greater than anyone who thinks this photograph shows the slightest bit "distastefulness!"
super cute.. I am with the Phoenix Pin Up Dolls and this looks similar to what we take and send in our care packages.
As a ten year veteran of the US Navy, I can say that in my experience this picture would do absolutely nothing more than bring a smile to my face and instill pride that I could be involved with something that would inspire this kind of work.
im glad the work Shelby and I did is getting so much attention!! I think we will title this one"the smokin gun!!"
If you think this is disrespectful to the military, then maybe you should go back in time and lecture the men that painted these images on the planes and hung these girlies above their bunks.....:)
I am sick of everyone going out of their way to take everything so personal these days. Stop over analyzing and relax. It's alright if you are not a fan of everything that goes on in the world, but please don't make me listen to it. I try and respect all people and their interests, even if its not for me. Pointing fingers only makes people look insecure with themselves.

This is a fantastic throwback setting! Pinup Images are meant to boost morale and I believe this does exactly that and in good taste. The image of a beautiful lady from home juxtaposed to the imagery of the implements of war is comforting! What's not to like about that! Personally, I appreciate the efforts of the models and photographers who choose this format to thank those of us who sacrifice the security and comfort of home to serve. As a Navy vet, I love seeing MY branch of service honored this way. I am certain the majority of my Army, Air Force, and Marine friends feel the same . . . they all enjoy seeing the NAVY honored this way! (okay, their branches too)
As a former soldier in the British army i think pinup posters and pictures behind your locker doors brings a touch of glamor and normality to an otherwise dull and boring barracks.
We used to trade pictures like they were cigarettes and have votes on who was the hottie of the month.
Cause when bombs fall and bullets whistle there's nothing like a taste of home to keep you sane.
I really appreciate all of the comments from the military (past AND present). The model, Shelby, is engaged to a sailor on a submarine and he and his shipmates are thrilled about the photos. They go for weeks at a time without even seeing the outside! Shelby is preparing a package specifically for the sub guys with small photos, small treats, and small toys. They can't have any large anything because of the space restrictions.

I LOVE this photo.

That's my opinion.
