Just finished watching Kung Fu Hustle and some scenes are reminiscent of Tarantino's Kill Bill (although I think it's probably the other way round given his penchant for Chinese and Japanese movies.) But it got me thinking about Tarantino and his fabulous use of old school hits in his movies- they're probably the best thing about them.
Is there a defining moment in a film for you with a piece of 1950's or rockabilly music? Perhaps it's a Northern Soul classic, or a swing dance tune?
What's your favourite track in a movie and what scene is it from?

stand by me, thats all i gots to say.
Might I add that this is my personal song, I walk to the beat internally. Fantastic post Kitty!

D'Oh! I forgot to add my own choices!
I really like Steelers Wheel "Stuck in the MIddle with You" - the "Ear Scene" in Reservoir Dogs. The juxtaposition between the horrific violence, Michael Madsens nonchalence and the upbeat track is awesome and definitely somehting that "sticks" with you.. (Heh, heh! See what I did there?!)
Oh just remembered I really love the use of Ray Charles "I can't stop loving you" (I think that's what it's called) just as a building blows up in the studio Ghibli anime feature "Metropolis" (not to be confused with the Fritz Lang 1920's film). I watched it with my sister and it was truly beautiful- we both stared at the screen and went "Waaaaaoow!"
D*** Dale and Link Wray in Pulp Fiction...by far, the best use of old music in a modern movie!

I also liked the use of old songs in Swingers...
Terrific film, with an amazing soundtrack.

Pretty much the entire soundtrack to The Commitments. It's an underrated little gem of a movie, for those who haven't seen it.
Pulp Fiction AND Reservoir Dogs both have great songs. Does anyone know if Tarantino picks those tracks himself? Swingers is another wonderful pick!

I'll add Big Night to the mix. An underrated movie with a perfectly well-fit soundtrack, heavy on Louis Prima and Claudio Villa.

I would have to suggest the Cramps version of Fever used in the diner scene in Near Dark.
THe coasters for Butterfly's lap dance.. Terrantino has such great taste in music.
