I want to decorate my apartment in glorious vintage style, I've done lots of research on authentic home decor for various decades from period ads and how relatives had their homes, but some input would be helpful.

I have limited space, need more storage and have no idea how to look interesting without ending up looking like "Grandma's house" or a cheesy diner.

As I am sure many of you have interesting homes, please help! @.@

Check out our friends over at www.retrolifestyle.com. There are tons of great photos to get ideas from, and the forum has a few threads as well.

Also, www.retrorenovation.com is a must for anyone wanting to re-do their home in a vintage style.

I love Retro Renovation, she always has great articles.

I haven't tried Retro Life yet, but that's a good idea. thanks for the tip Roxy! *~*

Those sites are really great !

I'd say to put some pastel colors in the walls, it can also be wallpapers and, since you've limited space and need more storage, I'd suggest what I currently do in a situation like yours, I use beautiful boxes and vintage luggages : )

every month or so zulily.com has awesome vintage style telephones and payphones that work. i'd keep an eye out !

If you're looking for vintage appliances, try bigchill.com

what era are you most drawn to?

as said above though, vintage suitcases and chests will be great for storage :) i also like to have a few quirky items dotted about too, for example i have a 1940/50s cadburys roses tin in my kitchen next to my retro kettle with some gingham bunting i made across the window that match my bright yellow appliances and pastel blue walls :)

i'm starting on my bedroom next which i'd like a fin de siecle look to it :)

Pick a decade and stick with it but add a few modern pieces; this will keep it from looking too much like a 70 year old woman's house.

I love 1950s design the matchy matchiness and the bright colors. The suggestion about the suitcases is great I never would have thought of that. Now I'm considering painting my walls mint green.

Thanks for the wonderful ideas everyone! :)

Hi! this is my first post. I Thrift shop and also buy modern items that  look vintage. also I saw you needed storage... Have you thought of going to antique stores and looking for old suitcases? I have a set of three, ironically all are the same color and samsinite luggage, i use them to store my vintage hats scarves ect. it also doubles as my end-table. It is a cool way to set up a room!

Everyone's already provided you with some great advice. I'd have to agree with mixing in a few 'modern' pieces to avoid looking to grandma-esque. Vintage accents can easily transform a home. You can also find a lot of new retro inspired pieces at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters.

I'm currently going through this as well. I'm going for a bit of a cheesy, kitschy, tiki vibe with mine so lots of bright colours, flamingos, and bamboo furniture. I got a cheap table (really, it was a bargain £2.50!) in Ikea and I plan on covering it images and photos of vintage/pin up/rockabilly things to personalise it :)

Vintage style gives you comfort and charm, I can help you with ideas like you can have beautiful vintage style chandelier, Have neutral and soft color interior and furniture with vintage style textures. You can find that in any salvage shops. You can have wall murals, paintings, have large window, fireplace. You can retro style furniture from any vintage or salvage shop. You can have electic kitchen interior.
