Hi everyone!

So I'm in my first pinup competition and the next stage is a pageant where we model one pinup swimsuit and one vintage/pinup formal dress.
I understand that every pageant is different but would anyone have any tips from their own experiences of live pinup pageants? What to expect?
I would be very grateful!

Where does one go about FINDING a pinup pageant, and subsequently entering?

I am not sure why this topic got shared with me. I don't really like contests. Usually there is no such thing as best, greatest, most beautiful, etc.
But I do love Lisa's suggestions about class, glamour, kindness and sophistication. Those assets are always a plus for anyone.

One foot in front of the other! Be sure to bring a little sand paper for the soles of your shoes, particularly stilettos if you're wearing them. Worst case scenario is falling flat on your face but there are many things you can do such as this to avoid it. Main thing is to relax  because viewers can see a mile away when you're nervous and if that means a glass of champaingn (and only a glass), than don't be afraid of "a little help from your friends". ... Lastly don't forget to smile!

Not sure why this discussion was shared two years after the original postings... but here are my thoughts anyway- to the OP, or anyone else who cares.

When I competed in Miss Pinup Australia last year a large part of the scoring was devoted to posing. I don't know if that is also true of the comp you are (were) entering, but if it is, my advice is; PRACTICE!

Look up some Elvgren girls and practice doing the poses you are comfortable with, bearing in mind how they will be seen by the audience/judges. Maybe get a friend to take pictures of you, then you will know how it looks.

Even if poses aren't essential to the comp you are doing, throwing in a few tame ones (other than the standard "oops" face) will probably help your cause.

I also agree with most of the things the other people have said. Confidence is super important!

Hi Scarlette!

I will be competing in my 4th pageant tomorrow :)  Check out an article i had featured this past week for a few tips and what to expect! http://www.canada.com/health/pageant+goes+Kaboom/6510390/story.html

I see that I am way late, but something to consider is that some of the pageants have a question and answer portion.  The questions vary, and sometimes include asking about your inspiration past or present.  Be prepared with an intelligent answer.  I mean if the girl two before you is asked the same question and answers with the same name you would, have a backup.  Do your research and be familiar with the pinup and at least something significant about her.  If you choose Betty Grable, be prepared to do the signature bathing suit peek over the shoulder.  It is a good idea to have at least thought about about something that makes you unique as well.  Be genuine and have fun!

I absolutely LOVE that this discussion was shared with me even though it is three years old... I'm entering my first contest on Saturday and am sooo nervous!!!!  Well not really nervous, oddly enough, but anxious?  I do plan on just having fun with it and getting the crowd riled up a bit with some sass. I hope to invoke my idol, Jane Russell, and the class and sophistication she always brought with her.  But I'm doing a ton of other things at the show, too, like running a vendor booth, volunteering for the show and trying to see as much as I can of the cars. music and exhibitions! I guess that's why I'm not so worried about the pageant. These tips have been wonderful!  I was wondering, though... I'm still debating on a dress! The ladies I've seen around here who have won were always in costume - like WWII uniform or sailor uniform... that sort of thing. Would going that route help my chances of winning? Or will an A-line halter dress do just as well?

Now I've never competed in a pageant, but I've seen one pin up pageant and the winner was the girl who flashed her panties...And one that my friend saw said they wore bad lingerie, couldn't name old actresses as inspirations (apparently didn't know any! Couldn't even fake it with a standard!) and was asked the question if they would rather be smart or sexy and they chose sexy.

I say be SMART afterall the brain is one of the best sex organs. Be smart, confident, play, glamourous (I agree with everyone this is important) and sincere. Practice posing, think of answers to questions just in case. And just be your charming self.
