Cat eye makeup

I need help from some of the makeup artists on here on how to do a convincing cat eye with eye liner. I looked at some videos on youtube and they really didn't help. Would you recommend eyeliner on the top and bottom lid of the eye, or just the top? Liquid or pencil liner? I just started using liquid eyeliner and now that I have the hang of it, I was interested in trying a different look, but I don't want to look like a raccoon.

I'm not a makeup artist, however I have extensive experience with makeup because I wanted to be one. I find that liquid works best and tends not to smudge. As for on top or top and bottom whatever works for your eyeshape. My eyes are narrow because I'm asian so I only do the top so it doesn't look so closed. If you have wide ope eyes top and bottom could work, but just the tops looks great and it's easier to pull off when just starting out

Not pencil. Have you tried using a cake liner or something like MAC's fluidline? It comes in a pot. You have to use an angled brush with either of these. I prefer these to liquid because they are easier to apply (they are a thicker consistency) Top only is best for the cat eye. If you pull your eyelid just right at the end it should make the cat eye without you having to really angle it up yourself. You can do a little bit on the bottom if you want but just barely smudge it into the lashline just to give some definition, not to actually see a line.
