I remember about 3ish years ago when I started modeling my mom hated it. When I got my first tattoo (now I'm practically covered) my mom hated it.

Of course as many of you know my favorite pin up and role model is Dita Von Teese because I can relate to her most since she is in the modern world. There are photos of her modeling on her mother's couch and the photos are OH SO GORGEOUS.

It got me thinking, "Why can't I have a cool mom that supports my modeling nude or in lingerie?"

Do any of you have conservative mothers like mine? I feel awkward!

Mine will give me the occasional raised eyebrow but she's pretty supportive. I hope you guys work stuff out and she accepts you! :)
My parents definitely don't approve. They are Catholic, so I don't even talk about the lingerie stuff. I just show them the fashion photos I do. They have a bigger issue with my pics being on the web more than anything. They are afraid of the wrong people seeing them, I guess.
I feel that. Today, I was joking about becoming first lady one day, and my mom said "That won't happen. You have a..." Then she turned around bent over and pointed to her tush and finished, "background." And it made me laugh. but hey some of the pictures I have out here I could hurt a campaign.
Except. I'm not dating a politician so it's not really an issue. (now)

I just happened to come across this discussion and just had to reply. I'm not a model by far, however a photographer. I come from an extremely religious, conservative, upper middle class family. I totallllyyy can relate to you!!! Not by the photos I am in, however, the photos I take. It's very hard to be proud of something I turn out and I couldn't even begin to think of showing my mother some of my work. It's hard to tell someone to "check out a website, but don't look at that folder"! Just doesn't work out.
I'm just happy that my parents are supportive of me and don't ask, so I just don't tell these days. Seems to work better that way!!!
My mom knows that I model, and even asked if she could come along to a shoot once (I said no), but I've never shown her the photos. One day she walked into my house unexpectedly while I was getting ready for a car show, and I was surprised that her commentary on my getup was limited to which belt I should wear and poking fun at me for voluntarily wearing such binding undergarments! Maybe I should let her in a little more on what I do. She's disapproved of most else that I've done, so maybe this is the one thing she'll like.

My dad, on the other hand... I love him dearly, and we're great friends. But he didn't want me to even pierce my ears! He came around a little when he found out that my first tattoo was something my sister had drawn as a kid, rather than the flaming-skull-with-snakes-and-daggers flash that he must have been picturing, but the one (very demure) photo that I showed him didn't go down well. I think I'll keep this part of my life away from him. He doesn't understand why I enjoy a look that comes from an era before I was born.
My mom doesn't understand what's with me when I have "all those crazy hairstyles." LOL! I'm a chameleon. I love to dress up and try on different personas. I've pierced body parts, gotten a tattoo and don't get me started on my goth days! She shakes her head at me every time I do something else "out of the norm" says her short piece and we move on.

The pictures are actually a new development for me. As a married woman, there are many things I don't share with my mother. I have my own boundaries and limits. Telling your mom that you like to be tied up and spanked isn't something that comes up in everyday conversation. Be accepting of your mother's boundaries and limits and your relationship can still be good. We're all different people and that's what makes this world so interesting. Don't waste time wishing she was like someone else. Share what you can with her and just know that the rest can be shared elsewhere...like here. ;) She is who she is. Just love her for being that person. Someone who loves you.
